For five decades, singer-songwriter-guitarist Eric Bibb has criss-crossed the globe, captivating live audiences with music that's steeped in the tradition of American blues and layered with generous shades of folk and gospel. 'Troubadour Live', captures one of those powerful live performances in an intimate but emotionally charged setting and was recorded in December 2010 at Uppsala, Sweden. The album also includes two bonus tracks crafted in the studio.
Eric Bibb is, in every respect, a modern-day troubadour - heir to the legacy of Lead Belly, Woody Guthrie, Odetta and countless other great voices of the early and mid-20th century. After many ambitious studio albums his intention with this CD is to document and share with a wider audience what he's been doing live on stage.
He also wanted to work with some of his favourite musicians including Swedish guitarist Staffan Astner, who has recorded and/or performed with Ray Charles, Ian Hunter, Celine Dion and many others. Also on hand are Glen Scott, Andre De Lange and Paris Renita, the gospel trio collectively known as Psalm4.
Highlights from the CDs eleven live tracks include Eric's tribute to B.B. King, "Tell Riley", the stirring "New World Comin' Through" with Psalm4 and the spiritual and melodic "Connected". The latter includes subtle piano interlude by long-time colleague Glen Scott and a touching moment when Andre De Lange begins to sing in Zulu at the end of the song.
The two studio recorded bonus tracks are "Put Your Love First", a country-flavoured vocal duet with Australian singer-songwriter Troy Cassar-Daley and "If You Were Not My Woman," a straight-up reggae track with heartfelt, devotional lyrics.
